Description:

Welcome to one of the best Bighorn outfits in Alberta. This operation is located just west of Grande Cache, and as you know, Grande Cache is headquarters to excellent bighorn sheep and high success rates. Not only does the operation have Bighorn it also has a variety of other species available, including; Moose, Elk, Whitetail, Mule Deer and Black Bear. This operation is being sold turn-key and has extensive equipment which is in excellent condition. There are 8 Bighorn permits spread between WMU 442 & 444, harvested sheep in these areas range in the 160 to 175 class. Both WMUs have extensive areas which lie within the Willmore Wilderness Park and Kakwa Wildlands Park. This ensures no motorized vehicles and gives hunters on horseback that true wilderness experience.

Main camp is in Willmore Wilderness Park 2 hours ride from the staging area. Main camp includes comfortable wall-tent accommodation for 20 and boasts good horse corrals and excellent grass.

Willmore Wilderness Park in the Rocky Mountains of central Alberta is a beautiful untouched wilderness area with pristine forests, clear mountain streams, alpine and subalpine lakes, pretty valleys, mountain wildflowers, and stunning panoramic mountain vistas. Elevation ranges from 300 metres in the northeast to over 1,500 metres in the southwest, with some peaks along the Continental Divide exceeding 3,050 metres. Resthaven Glacier extends into Willmore from Jasper National Park.

The area represents some of the last unexploited range of many wildlife species in Alberta with almost 20% of the mountain goat & bighorn sheep. Willmore is one of the only parks in northern Alberta where people can still hunt and yet not over-hunted as there are no motorized vehicles permitted.

Kakwa Wildland Park established in 1996 is a remote, rugged place of incredible beauty with tree-carpeted valleys, swift clear creeks and high mountain ridges.

Kakwa Wildland Park is located in the alpine and subalpine subregions of the Rocky Mountain Natural Region. The park’s complex array of natural features includes mountains, foothills, meadows, streams and rivers. Kakwa Falls, Albert’s tallest waterfall, is a spectacular 30 meters.

There is evidence of glacial outwash in the park’s numerous emerald coloured kettle lakes. The lower valleys are forested with lodgepole pine and there’s subalpine fir at higher elevations. Three-hundred-year-old Englemann spruce grow in some of the park’s high southern valleys and large stands of rummholz (stunted subalpine fir growing at tree line) occur around La Creche Mountain. At least 450 vascular plant species are found in Kakwa; 30 of these are considered rare in Alberta and 28 are at the extreme edge of their range. Wildlife species in the area include woodland caribou; elk; bighorn sheep;mountain goat; moose; mule and white-tailed deer; grizzly and black bear; wolves; wolverines; lynx; and red fox.
