Area Data

Churchill River:

The Churchill River is a major 1,609-km (1,000-mi) waterway in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada, flowing from Churchill Lake to Hudson Bay. Known for its boreal forest scenery, it serves as a popular canoeing route, as well as offering excellent fishing for walleye and northern pike, filled with rapids and lakes and originally known as Missinipi (Cree for "big waters") and a historic fur trade route..

Slim's Cabins is located in a small bay on Sokatisewin Lake on the Churchill River. The Churchill River is unlike most rivers, it is comprised of a series of lakes linked by channels and rapids. Being located in a remote area on the Canadian Shield means that the panoramic surroundings are rarely interrupted by others during your adventure.

If it’s the fight of the Northern Pike you're looking for you won’t be disappointed, numerous lakes and bays on the Churchill River system provide excellent pike habitat. Walleye also lurk in many locations on the Churchill River.  This river system offers still lake environments, swift type water and even faster rapids that walleye thrive in. If you don’t care to venture too far up or down river, not to worry, there are two swifts a mile each way from camp that provide outstanding walleye and northern fishing all summer.

Sandy Bay:

Sandy Bay is a northern village in the boreal forest of northern Saskatchewan.  It is situated on the shore of Wasawakasik Lake — which is a lake along the course of the Churchill River — about 70 kilometres north of the community of Pelican Narrows and 91 kilometres  northwest of Creighton and Flin Flon. Access is via Highway 135 and the Hanson Lake Road.

The community has a health clinic, community resource centre, pre-school, K-12 school, and a day-care. Sandy Bay has a population of about 1,200.
